Quick Overview

Rail enthusiasts of all ages will love this high quality replica of the Sir Archibald Sinclair locomotive, a famous engine which originally ran as a passenger train. Compatible with all wooden railway systems.

History

Sir Archibald Sinclair is a Battle of Britain Class Locomotive and was built in 1947 at Brighton Works as a mainline passenger locomotive. The engine arrived at Bluebell Railway in 1979 from Barry Scrapyard and was finally able to steam again in 2009.

The Bluebell Railway was part of the route from Lewes to East Grinstead which opened in 1882. The line was shut on 28th May 1955 but Miss Bessemer learnt that by law the Railway had to run so the line stayed opened until 16th March 1958 when the law was changed.

On the 7th August 1960 Bluebell an Stephney pulled the first passenger train making the Bluebell Railway the first line to be reopened as a preserved standard gauge railway operated by volunteers, which started the new Railway Preservation era.

The original Sir Archibald Sinclair can be seen at Bluebell Railway. Sheffield Park Station, East Sussex, TN22 3QL England T: +44 (0)1825720800 W: www.bluebell-railway.co.uk
